Auto Defects News
The NHTSA negotiated the first air bag recall to prevent 1994, 1995 Nissan Altima passengers from becoming blinded from the poorly designed air bags. Nissan passengers have been suffering eye injuries, including becoming blind and other severe injuries because Nissan failed to take any timely action, according to the Public Citizen consumer group.
The group alongside the Center for Auto Safety asked the federal government to investigate the Nissan airbag injuries over two years ago after information that the Nissan Altima airbags hit passengers’ faces while inflating at speeds of 160 mph despite the low speed crashes that should not injure anyone. Public Citizen feels the NHTSA’s Nissan airbag announcement was long overdue and that there are still almost 200,000 of the vehicles on the roadways that must be alerted of the serious auto problems.
The group thinks that Nissan has continued to argue over the data sources showing the Nissan air bag injuries by pointing out irrelevant fatality data and blaming passenger positioning or seat belt use for the air bag injuries while more and more people continued to be injured and lose their eyesight.
