The Public Citizen consumer advocacy group issued a statement following a NHTSA report on non-traffic motor vehicle related deaths. The report showed about 350 deaths per year occur because “preventable with available and cost-effective design or technology changes” have not occurred, according to the consumer group, showing the importance for Congress to enact strong safety provisions. Public Citizen believes it is the NHTSA's responsibility under law to protect the public.
