Rollover News
The Public Citizen consumer group has found the newly revised information released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to be a value to auto consumers but believes there are still major flaws in the new rollover scores. While the group thinks that the rollover in a single vehicle crash information now posted on the Web can be helpful, manufacturers should be required to post the information on the vehicle's window sticker at the point of sale instead of relying on the consumer to find the information on the Internet.
The group finds the rating system too narrow, giving just one to five stars so that two vehicles can receive the same rating while having widely varying rollover risks in actuality. Since NHTSA safety standards regarding rollover propensity are “silent”, according to Public Citizen, manufacturers are able to make vehicles as easy to tip as they desire, which the agency should counter by issuing minimum rollover safety standards.
